I designed the 2009 gay pride parade entry Crobar nightclub, a gay, fun & naughty faux “ice cream truck”. The truck was also equipped with night time lighting effects which were used the two evenings prior to the parade driving around in the boys town neighborhood of Chicago. I created the entire concept, including all of the associated graphics and the 8-bit ice-cream-truck-versions of pop-songs. It was thrilled with the response. It was the most talked about entry of the parade.

The uniform was inspired by soda jerks.

The truck handed out thousands of frozen ice-pops branded with info about the party. They were frozen with liquid nitrogen the evening before the parade.
What the inside of the van looked like after the parade is much less magical.
Using a rather large step van permitted the use of oversized graphics.

I created these illustrations in the same stylized manner of actual ice cream novelty graphics.
Unless you were looking carefully, you might not notice the adult nature of many of the novelties, often a requirement for nightclub marketing.
Politically correct and polite are not requirements of a pride parade.
